What's new
Short notes on what changed in Hubs and what you can do now. The newest changes are at the top.
Releases
Inbox is now Activity
Inbox is now called Activity and has a bell, on the web, the installed app and the desktop app.
Mentions, replies, invites, friend requests and everything else that needs you land there.
Messages has its own button again, beside the bell on a computer and in the bottom bar on a phone.
Old Inbox links and bookmarks still open it, and searching for inbox still finds it.
1080p screen sharing, free for everyone
Motion and video shares now go up to 1080p at 30 fps, and text and slides stay sharp at 1080p.
Viewers on slower connections or small tiles get a lighter version of the share on their own.
Turn on 60 fps for motion, and Hubs uses it when your device and connection have room.
Set your status from your photo
Click your photo to choose Active, Away, Do not disturb or Invisible.
Do not disturb holds notifications and sounds for as long as you pick. Mentions still wait in Inbox.
Add a custom status with an emoji and choose when it clears.
On computers, the You menu opens as a compact menu by your photo.
Keep your voice out of captions
Turn on Don't caption my voice in Settings, Privacy, or from the captions notice in a call.
While it is on, your speech is never used for live captions, call transcripts or voice message transcripts.
Tidier sidebar organizing
The Category here button between sidebar groups has its own space and never covers a category name.
Easier to find your way
Browser tabs and window titles name the page and the hub you are in.
Inbox sections keep their place when you go back or reload.
On a phone, the Manage bar shows the page you are on.
Escape in the place switcher clears your search before it closes.
Sensitive message rules check automatic posts
An organization's sensitive message rules now also check webhook posts, feeds, automatic replies and post series.
Pickers and dialogs that stay out of your way
An emoji or GIF picker opened from a thread reply shows on top, and Esc closes just the picker.
A page no longer stays frozen after a dialog closes on its own.
The installed app on iPhone
In the installed app on iPhone, the message bar clears the home indicator and sits right on the keyboard.
Tapping outside a sheet closes it, even when the sheet opened over a profile or a side panel.
When the keyboard closes, the message bar goes back to the bottom of the screen with no empty strip under it.
Smoother on phones and in chat
Going back on a phone lands where you were, and the keyboard and sheets no longer leave a gap.
Buttons and reactions are easier to tap on touch screens, and notices sit above the tab bar.
The message box grows with your text on iPhone, and Jump to latest appears once you scroll up.
A draft you started on another device fills an empty message box.
A faster Inbox
Your Inbox opens faster, and new messages keep arriving smoothly when a busy channel fills up quickly.
Friendlier invite links
New invite links use short codes like K7QX-4MPA that are easy to read out and work in any case, with or without the dash.
Owners and admins can let every member make their own invite link, and the people they invite see who asked them.
Radiant hubs that are public and open to join can pick their own invite link name in Manage, Invitations.
Share an invite with Copy link, your phone's share sheet or a QR code, and hide hub details on invite pages if you like.
Safer polls, apps and webhooks
Poll choices follow the same word filters and posting rules as messages.
Webhook and automatic post names can't pass for Hubs staff or the Official badge.
When a hub leaves an organization, apps the organization installed there go back to the hub.
The organization Integrations page lists only the hubs and channels you are in.
You choose who can mention roles and everyone
In a community, members can mention a role only after an owner or admin turns on Members can mention this role.
Give a role Mention @everyone and @here in Tool permissions to let its members notify a whole channel.
Workflows, welcome questions and profile fields
Hubs can turn on Workflows: when someone joins, reacts or posts, welcome them, give a role or tell staff.
Ask new members a few welcome questions after the rules. Their answers can give roles and open channels.
Add profile fields that members answer on their profile in your hub, and choose who sees each answer.
Owners and admins can see how many people joined through each invite link.
Channel permissions you can see through
Allow or deny each permission for a channel, a category, a role or one person, in plain words.
Check a channel with View as to see exactly what someone can do there.
Give a voice room a status line so people know what is happening inside.
Drafts, threads and disappearing messages
Your Inbox has Drafts, with every unsent draft and scheduled message, and Threads, with the threads you are part of.
Set a DM or group DM to remove messages after 1, 7 or 30 days.
Hubs can turn on edit history, so the author and moderators can see earlier versions of a message.
Owners and admins can see which custom emoji and stickers get used most.
One place for every setting
Search every setting by name, and put a section back to its defaults in one tap.
Choose how much you hear: Everything, Mentions and DMs, or Quiet. Set one photo for your whole account.
One + menu makes a channel, an event, a poll, a canvas or a call.
Sign in on a computer by typing the code it shows into Hubs on your phone.
Organizations: guided setup, guests and compliance
A guided setup starts a new organization from a template and opens your workplace when it is done.
Owners can turn on verified email domains, guests in workspaces and organization sign-ins in Add features.
Owners who need them can turn on search and legal hold, sensitive message rules and information barriers.
Subcommands for bots, and developer docs
Bots can register subcommands and groups, and hub admins choose who may use each command.
Read the developer docs, with every route, event and error, without signing in.
Easier first minutes, and a calmer phone
An invite link opens on sign-up and says which hub it leads to. The welcome tour waits until you have landed.
Add your email right where the hub asks for it, without leaving the hub.
On phones, a row you tapped no longer stays highlighted, and long names end neatly.
Emails keep their header in dark mode.
Pronouns, reminders and search filters
Add pronouns to your profile, and choose who sees them in Settings, Privacy.
Type /remind me tomorrow at 9am to call Sam in any message box, and Hubs reminds you in your Inbox.
Narrow search with from:, in:, has:, before: and after:, and pick a text size or high contrast in Settings, Appearance.
Roles can show as their own group in a channel's member list.
Shared safety lists and Sparks
Hubs can publish their ban and scam lists and use lists from hubs they trust. Turn on Shared safety lists in Add features.
If a published list names you, your Standing page shows which hub and why, and you can appeal.
Spark a hub from its Home to give it more room. Owners see Sparks and usage in Manage.
Faster loading and clearer messages
Hubs opens faster: call tools load when you join a call, and channels, your sidebar and your Inbox need far fewer trips to the server.
Clearer words when something goes wrong or you are offline, and friendlier empty screens.
Calls in DMs, and meetings that do more
Start a call from any DM or group DM. These calls are end-to-end encrypted, with a code you can compare to check.
Raise your hand, send a quick reaction, and switch between gallery and speaker view in calls.
Meeting hosts can mute everyone, ask someone to unmute, hand off host and run polls, and everyone can draw on a shared whiteboard.
Save meeting templates, and run a hub event as a webinar with registration, reminders and an attendance report.
Voice and video settings
Choose your microphone, speaker and camera once in Settings, test your mic, and turn on stronger noise removal.
Use push to talk, and turn any one person up or down, or mute them just for you.
Check your camera and mic before you join a room or meeting, or choose to always join right away.
Live captions, activities and app panels
Hubs can turn on live captions in calls. Each person turns them on for themself, with translation when the hub allows it.
Play a quiz, draw and guess, or checkers with everyone in a voice room's call, in hubs that turn activities on.
Draw quick marks on someone's shared screen, and bots can add a button that opens their app right in the chat.
Video and voice messages, link previews and a gallery
Record a short video message or hold the microphone for a voice message, right from the message box.
Links to outside sites show a preview card. You can turn previews off for yourself in Settings.
Share audio, video and office files, and open any image to page through every picture in the conversation.
Keep links, files and drafts in Notes to self, and see every unread conversation in one place in your Inbox.
Out of office, local time and chat folders
Set out of office dates with an optional automatic reply, and your notifications rest until you're back.
Profiles can show your local time and how to say your name, each with its own privacy choice.
Group conversations, channels and hubs into your own chat folders, with an unread count on each tab.
Lists and a feedback board
Track work in lists with columns, a table or a board, comments and due date reminders. A hub's tasks are now its Tasks list.
Add any message to a list, then share the list into a channel and pin it there.
Hubs can add a feedback board where members post ideas, vote and follow, and staff share where each idea stands.
Happening now on Home
Home shows live calls, stages, screen shares and events about to start in every place you belong to, with one tap to join.
People who appear offline are never named there.
Twitch videos in Watch together start muted, and the demo recorder highlights your pointer and leans in toward clicks.
More for hub staff
Staff can post an announcement as the hub itself, and people can follow those announcements from the hub's public page.
Staff tiers can include a Rewards area, and Insights shows how your hub's own emoji get used.
New tools in Manage, under Features: ban signals, a returning member check, supporter roles and music in voice rooms.
Bots can offer quick results right in the message box when someone types their name.
Canvases, a Help Center and Hubs as an app
Organizations can write canvases together: living pages you share into any channel or message, pin to a conversation and find again in the Canvases library.
A new Help Center answers common questions, and you can read it without signing in.
Add Hubs to your phone or computer's home screen and it opens like an app.
A smoother start and quieter notifications
A short tour shows new people around, and anyone can take it again from the You menu.
Signing up and resetting a password now go one step at a time.
Pause notifications for a while, send a message without a ping, and get alerts for words you choose.
An app directory for hubs and organizations
Browse bots and apps in the new app directory, see what each one can do, and add it to your hub.
Organization admins get an Integrations page for webhooks and apps across all their hubs.
Hubs can turn on their own bot name, incoming webhooks, game profiles and request tags in Manage, under Features.
Choose who can find and join your hub
Pick whether your hub is listed, unlisted or hidden, and whether people join freely, ask first or need an invite.
Invite links can expire and stop after a set number of uses.
Owners can ask members to agree to the rules or pass a quick check before they chat. New hubs ask for the rules.
A guided start for new hubs
Creating a hub now takes a few short choices, with good defaults already picked.
A Set up your hub card on Home shows the next few steps until you are done.
Every feature you can add says in one line what it does and who sees it.
Better GIF search, tidier lists and nicer emails
GIF search returns results again.
Rows in a hub's list keep even spacing at both ends, and times no longer crowd the edge.
Every email from Hubs now has the Hubs look, and alerts for hosts say plainly what happened.
Chat beside your calls
Meetings now have a chat panel next to the video. On a phone it opens as a sheet.
Stages get an audience chat with slow mode, and a Q&A mode where people upvote questions.
Hub admins can also turn on a light chat for voice rooms, in Manage under Features.
Switch between accounts
Add another account on the same device and switch to it from the You menu.
Signing out of one account leaves the others signed in.
Hub Packs for gaming and neighborhoods
A pack adds tools made for one kind of community. Owners add one in Manage, under Features.
The Neighborhoods pack adds a board for lost and found, swaps and recommendations.
Moderation and community tools, built in
Each hub can set word and link filters, a raid shield and a verification step for new members.
Owners can add slash commands, welcome messages and member rewards without adding a bot.
A support desk lets members open a request that staff pick up and answer.
Watch together and shared channels
Start a video in a voice room and everyone in the room watches it in sync.
Two organizations can share a channel and talk without joining each other's workspace.
Catch me up can now send you a daily or weekly digest, in your Inbox or by email.
A page for every part of Hubs
Our website now has its own page for communities, organizations, features, developers, safety and downloads.
Each page opens without signing in and works in light and dark.
Manage lots of places
Sort your places, group them into folders and pick how dense the list is.
Mark a place as quiet, or set its notifications on its own.
Manage places puts all of this on one page.
Catch me up
After time away, ask for a short summary of a channel or a whole hub.
It still works without AI, with a plainer summary built from the messages themselves.
Events with role slots, and a sticker wall
Event hosts can open slots for each role, keep a waitlist and send reminders.
A hub can upload its own stickers for members to send in chat. It can also open a sticker wall, one place for everyone to share them.
Features your hub chooses
Owners can turn each hub feature on or off in one place: Manage, under Features.
When you move a community over, bring in its channels and roles from a server template.
Bots and the developer portal
Developers can make an application, get a bot account and a token, and install the bot in a hub.
Retention and export for organizations
Organization admins can set how long messages are kept and place a legal hold when they need one.
Admins can also export their organization's data.
