Hubs developer docs

Build bots, apps and integrations for Hubs: the developer API, live events, webhooks, slash commands and hosted apps.

Hubs gives developers and organizations a few clear ways in. Pick the one that fits what you are building; most projects use two or three together.

How the platform works

  • Hubs stay in charge. A hub owner or admin approves every bot, sees in plain words what it may do, and can remove it with one tap. Organizations can add an app to all their hubs at once, or limit which apps their hubs may add.
  • A bot is held to its role. Every call runs through the same rules as a person in the bot's role: channel visibility, posting rules, slow mode, content rules and bans. Scopes and permissions only ever narrow that.
  • Nothing private leaves by default. Direct messages belong to the people in them. No bot, webhook or app can read them.
  • Secrets are shown once. Tokens and signing secrets are stored as hashes or sealed, shown once when made, and can be replaced at any time. A bot token posted in chat by mistake is revoked on the spot.

Versions

The REST API and the gateway are version 1 (/api/developer/v1). Webhook bodies carry their own version, now 1. A version changes only when a field is removed or changes meaning; new fields can appear at any time, so ignore fields you do not know. See the changelog.

The developer platform is in beta and free while it is. Limits on this site are the ones the server enforces today.
