Reply, react, edit or delete

Everything you can do to a message once it is sent, including threads and reminders.

On a computer, hover a message to see its actions. On a phone, press and hold it.

  • React adds an emoji.
  • Reply answers in the channel, with the original quoted.
  • Open thread starts a side conversation. Replies are visible in the channel too.
  • More actions has the rest: edit, copy, Remind me, Turn into, pin, Mark unread, Save for later, Copy link and report.

Turn a message into a task, a page or an event

In a hub, More actions has Turn into. A thread has the same button at the top, which uses the whole thread. You only see the kinds you are allowed to make.

  • Task adds it to a list (the hub's Tasks list, another list you can edit, or a new one). The name comes from the message, and you can pick who does it and by when.
  • Doc page or section makes a page in the hub's Docs, or adds a section to a page, quoting the message or the thread's key messages with who wrote them. Change anything before saving.
  • FAQ answer adds a question and answer to the hub's FAQ page. For hub staff.
  • Event makes an event. If the message names a time, like Friday at 7pm, it is filled in for you.
  • Reminder reminds you about the message, like Remind me.

What you make links back to the message, and the message shows a small chip, like Task: Ship the patch, Open. The chip changes when the task is done or given to someone else. People who cannot open the list, page or event see A linked item you cannot open instead.

A task given to someone else that is due today or tomorrow also goes to their Activity. On a recording's recap, Create tasks turns every action item into a task at once, each linked to its moment in the recording.
